PUTRAJAYA, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The National Unity Ministry has been tasked with organising a special event to commemorate the contributions of Malaysia’s second Prime Minister, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, during this year’s National Month.

Communications Minister and MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was proposed during the Cabinet meeting, which among other matters discussed the 50th anniversary of Tun Abdul Razak’s passing, observed today.

“…and this is an important date not only to be remembered, and as has been done previously, every year throughout National Month there will be a figure or statesman honoured through a special event.

“The Prime Minister has requested the National Unity Ministry to prepare a special event to commemorate the services of the late Tun Abdul Razak, to be held throughout National Month leading up to National Day,” he said at his post-Cabinet meeting press conference here today.

Tun Abdul Razak, remembered as the Father of Development, served as Malaysia’s second Prime Minister from September 1970 to 1976.

He passed away on Jan 14, 1976, in London due to leukaemia at the age of 54.
