INDONESIA ALLOCATES RP31 BLN FOR WEATHER MODIFICATION OPS ACROSS JAKARTA IN 2026

17/01/2026 02:46 PM

JAKARTA, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Indonesian authorities have allocated Rp31 billion for Weather Modification Operations (OMCs) in Jakarta this year, in a bid to mitigate the risk of flooding and prolonged dry spells.

Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Head of Data and Information Technology Centre, Mohammad Yohan, said the amount was increased from an initial allocation of Rp7 billion, following weather trends forecast and recommendations by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Yohan said OMCs carried out during the dry season would differ from those implemented during the rainy season, which focused on inducing rainfall over land rather than over the sea, according to ANTARA News on Saturday.

He added that the full allocation might not be necessarily utilised, noting that OMCs would only be carried out if weather conditions warranted such intervention. (1 Million rupiah = RM240.1)
