KPKT ALLOCATES RM3 MIL FOR SIX MADANI RECREATIONAL PARKS IN PENANG

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) today announced an allocation of RM3 million for the construction of six MADANI Recreational Parks (TRMs) in Penang this year, aimed at enhancing recreational facilities and improving the well-being of the local community.

Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation was made in conjunction with the Thaipusam celebration as a token of the federal government’s appreciation to Penang.

He said three of the parks will be developed on the island, while the remaining three will be located in Seberang Perai.

“The construction cost is estimated at RM500,000 for each park, and the projects are expected to be completed by the end of this year,” he said in his speech at the recognition and presentation of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Certificate to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) here today.

Nga said the construction of TRM is among KPKT’s key initiatives to bring recreational facilities closer to the people and promote healthier, more inclusive communities.

He said that since the TRM initiative was launched in 2024, the ministry has exceeded its annual target of constructing 100 parks.

“In the first year of implementation, we not only met the target but surpassed it with the completion of 109 TRMs. Last year, the target of 100 parks was again exceeded, with 107 parks successfully completed.

“In just 24 months, a total of 216 MADANI Recreational Parks have been completed nationwide,” he said.
