KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- The successful implementation of more than 170 socio-economic development initiatives under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) has contributed to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth between 2021 and 2025, which is estimated to be at 5.2 per cent per annum.
Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the achievement demonstrated the effectiveness of the MADANI Economy’s direction and strategies in navigating global uncertainties, restructuring the economy and sustaining domestic demand.
The growth also reflected the impact of targeted cash assistance programmes such as Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), which have helped strengthen household spending.
“This was a positive momentum that reflects Malaysia’s economic fundamentals, which remained resilient and competitive.
“This year marks the start of the implementation phase of the 13MP, and the Ministry of Economy is committed to ensuring that every initiative is translated into tangible outcomes that benefit the people as a whole,” he said in a statement today.
The ministry added that the government is confident the country is on the right track to realise the MADANI Economy aspirations through the 13MP, themed ‘Redesigning Development’, and to achieve high-income nation status by 2030.
It highlighted the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s advance estimate of 5.7 per cent GDP growth for the fourth quarter of 2025 (4Q 2025) as an early indication of the nation’s current economic performance.
“Although the nation had faced various global challenges and an uncertain external environment, Malaysia’s economy is projected to grow by 4.9 per cent in 2025, exceeding the official forecast range of 4.0-4.8 per cent,” it said.
The Ministry of Economy also said that the surge in economic activity in 4Q 2025 points to a stronger growth momentum, mainly driven by firmer domestic demand, alongside improvements in the services and manufacturing sectors.
