LZS TARGETS RM2.2 MLN ZAKAT COLLECTION FROM SELANGOR POLICE VIA SALARY DEDUCTION SCHEME

SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) aims to collect RM2.2 million in zakat from members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in Selangor this year, focusing on strengthening the implementation of the salary deduction scheme as a more consistent, systematic, and continuous payment method.

LZS Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari said that the target is based on the significant potential participation of Selangor PDRM personnel, as there are still over 10,000 members who have not yet fulfilled their zakat through LZS despite living and working in the state.

"This target is realistic to achieve if more PDRM members join the automatic and continuous salary deduction scheme. If each person contributes as low as RM10 per month, the RM2.2 million annual target is not impossible," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Khaidzir said that the salary deduction scheme has proven to be the most effective mechanism in ensuring continuous zakat payments without burdening the payer.

He noted that last year, the total zakat collection from Selangor PDRM members reached RM1.03 million through salary deductions involving 2,736 personnel, proving the scheme's great potential as the most stable collection mechanism.

"As part of the effort to reach this new target, LZS has also launched the ‘Anda Hero Asnaf, Ayuh Berzakat Sang Saka Biru’ (You are the Hero of the Asnaf, Blue Uniforms Let's Pay Zakat) campaign, which offers the Wira Prihatin category at RM10 per month and the Wira Harapan category at RM50 per month, according to individual means," he said.

In other developments, LZS today completed the processing of the Selangor PDRM Employer Wakalah totaling RM126,162.92, to be distributed to the Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) and 16 District Police Headquarters (IPD) across Selangor for the implementation of welfare initiatives and spiritual development for personnel.
