NIBONG TEBAL, Jan 25 (Bernama) — Police today detained two more men linked to dangerous motorcycle riding at the Sungai Bakap rest and service area (R&R) southbound, footage of which recently went viral on social media.
Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) district police chief Supt Jay January Siowou said the follow-up arrests were made following intelligence gathering and further investigations by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department of the SPS District Police Headquarters in connection with the incident.
He said both suspects were detained for further investigation, bringing the total number of individuals arrested so far to eight.
“The suspects have been remanded for two days until tomorrow. Investigations are ongoing and the case is being probed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding that endangers the safety of other road users,” he said in a statement today.
Last Friday, police confirmed the arrest of six men aged between 16 and 20 following a 13-second viral video on Wednesday showing several individuals performing wheelie stunts and revving loud exhausts at a petrol station within the R&R area.
