FORMER TAHFIZ TEACHER PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO CAUSING INJURY TO STUDENT

KULIM, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- A former teacher at a tahfiz school in Sungai Kob pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to causing injury to a male student at the centre four months ago.

Muhammad Abdullah Abu Bakar, 26, was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the 11-year-old victim at the school hostel in Sungai Kob, at around 10 pm on Sept 29 last year.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a penalty of up to one year in prison or a a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor R. Jayasri requested bail to be set at RM8,000. However, lawyer representing the accused, appealed for a minimum bail on the grounds that the accused had been dismissed from his job and had no income.

Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah set bail at RM2,000 with one surety and ordered the accused not to harass the victim or witnesses until the case is resolved.

The court also set March 3 for the next mention date.
