KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 (Bernama) — The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will hold a proceedings meeting on the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) development project at the Parliament Building here on Feb 4.

PAC chairman Datuk Seri Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the meeting would be convened as a follow-up to discuss the outcome of the PAC’s working visit related to the second-generation LCS patrol ship development project at the Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS) in Perak today, as well as the latest progress of the project.

“This is the PAC’s third visit to monitor the project, following earlier PAC proceedings on the LCS project,” she said in a statement.

She said that during the visit, the Parliamentary PAC was briefed on the progress of the construction of the LCS vessels, the project timeline and the challenges faced in completing the project.

“The PAC was also taken to view LCS1, which is currently under construction at the LUNAS shipyard. The committee was also brought to inspect LCS2 and LCS3, which are under construction, from the outside,” she said.

During the visit, the PAC delegation included representatives from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Public Service Department, the Ministry of Finance, the National Audit Department and the Accountant General’s Department.

Also present were Defence Ministry (Mindef) secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, several Mindef delegates and RMN representatives.

Mas Ermieyati also said the PAC would continue to monitor the progress of the LCS project from time to time to ensure the vessels are completed according to the agreed timeline and cost.
