SEOUL, Feb 2 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's biggest automaker, said Monday its sales in January slipped 1.0 per cent from a year earlier amid weakened demand from abroad, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Hyundai Motor sold 307,699 vehicles last month, down from 310,962 units a year earlier, the company said in a release.

Domestic sales gained 9.0 per cent year-on-year to 50,208 units, while overseas sales shed 2.8 per cent to 257,491 units.

At home, Hyundai Motor sold 15,648 sedans, while sport utility vehicle (SUV) sales reached 18,447 units. Hyundai Motor said its independent luxury Genesis brand sold 8,671 units.

"Although the business environment is expected to remain highly unpredictable this year, we will continue to expand our market share by launching new models with strong product competitiveness," a Hyundai Motor official said.
