MOSCOW, Feb 3 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The Council of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) does not plan to vote on the return of Russian clubs and teams to international tournaments, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported, citing The Times.
According to the publication, the discussion of lifting restrictions on Russian teams will provoke strong resistance from some European countries, so the organisation's council will not hold a vote.
Earlier, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that the organisation should consider reviewing the ban on Russian national teams and clubs from international competitions. Following this, the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) urged FIFA and its president to maintain the existing position.
In February 2022, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international competitions for an indefinite period following developments in Ukraine.
