PORT DICKSON, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The upgrade of the jetties in Kampung Telok Pelandok and Pengkalan Kempas, worth RM1 million in this district, will add value to the tourism sector in Negeri Sembilan.

State Tourism, Culture and Arts Action Committee chairman Nicole Tan said this was because it would not only improve the safety and comfort of users but also support marine tourism activities and boost the local community economy.

She said it also reflected the state government's commitment in strengthening tourism infrastructure, thus increasing the attractiveness of Port Dickson as a major tourist destination in Negeri Sembilan.

"These two new products are believed to provide a lot of entertainment for tourists coming to Negeri Sembilan. The ecosystem is already there and we are also ready, including the facilities of cruise ships, nighttime fireflies and food stalls that provide various interesting menus.

"Tourists who come to this state will not get bored because they can visit many new tourist locations while relaxing with family or friends," she told reporters after officiating the handover of the tourist jetty here today.

The Kepayang state assemblyman said it is hoped that the project under the allocation of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusoff would improve public facilities as well as support the tourism and fishing industries of the local population.

The project to repair and upgrade the Kampung Telok Pelandok and Pengkalan Kempas Tourist jetties, each costing RM500,000, began on July 14, 2025 and was fully completed on November 20.

Among the main scope of the project includes site clearance, piling work, construction of the concrete structure of the jetty shed, woodwork and roof of the fishermen's hut as well as finishing and painting work.

Meanwhile, resident Shapra Sulaiman , 62, said the new facilities provided at both jetties will provide comfort and convenience to fishermen, especially when going out to sea to carry out fishing activities.

Shapra, a fisherman for more than 30 years, said the improvements at the Pengkalan Kempas Jetty will certainly facilitate the daily affairs of fishermen while also improving the safety of jetty users and the public.
