MALAYSIA REGAINS ASIAN TIGER STATUS, DRIVEN BY REFORMS & RISING GLOBAL CONFIDENCE - AMIR HAMZAH

05/02/2026 07:21 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has regained momentum and is reclaiming its standing as an Asian tiger on the regional and global economic stage, driven by fundamental reforms and rising international confidence, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

He said doubts over Malaysia’s economic turnaround two years ago have since eased, replaced by growing recognition of concrete improvements in economic fundamentals, governance and policy clarity.

“For me, the message is simple - Malaysia is back, and Malaysia is claiming its place as an Asian Tiger again.

”They (investors) can actually see the fundamental changes that we have brought about, and the confidence and endorsement Malaysia has received from the international community,” he said during a fiscal and monetary policy session, alongside Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, on the sidelines of Forum Ekonomi Malaysia 2026 (FEM) here, today.

Amir Hamzah said the international community’s endorsement reflects clearer policy direction and stronger economic foundations, adding that the focus must now shift decisively towards execution.

“I think the clarity of our plans is (already) there, What we need now is to execute it well, which is why this year and next year are about execution, not about dreaming or anything else.

From the government’s perspective, Amir Hamzah said close coordination with BNM will continue to ensure growth momentum is sustained, while safeguarding inclusivity.

“We want to motivate for further acceleration of growth, but at the same time ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.

He added that the government remains committed to executing the MADANI Economy framework to raise both the economic ceiling and floor, firmly positioning Malaysia on the path to becoming a developed nation by 2030.
