NSC, HKSI FORMALISE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST HIGH-PERFORMANCE SPORT

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Council of Malaysia (NSC) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) today formalised a strategic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in high-performance sport and related professional fields.

The MoU was signed by NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin and HKSI chief executive Tony Choi, witnessed by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol.

Mordi said the agreement, which will be effective for three years, establishes a structured framework for collaboration between the two institutions in advancing sporting excellence through international cooperation.

He said the partnership also focuses on strengthening systems that support elite athlete performance, professional development and institutional capacity.

“This three-year MoU, which runs from 2026 to 2029, reflects a commitment between both institutions to work together with a clear mission to improve sports performance and athlete development,” he told reporters after the MoU signing ceremony at Bukit Jalil here today.

He added that the partnership with HKSI would bring added value for athletes, particularly in disciplines such as fencing, sailing and combat sports.

Meanwhile, Choi did not rule out the possibility of expanding the collaboration between NSC and HKSI.

“We already have the Athletes Study Tour programme here and the feedback from our athletes has been very positive. They really enjoy it, and I believe that is important. I told the NSC director that this is just the starting point; I think we will have even closer cooperation in different areas,” he said.

The key areas of cooperation include collaborative research in sports science and sports medicine; exchange of expertise and best practices in high-performance training and performance technology; and capacity-building initiatives involving athletes, coaches, support staff and technical officials.

The agreement also encourages joint participation in conferences, seminars, workshops and other professional platforms to promote knowledge sharing and innovation.
