KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The implementation of 38 infrastructure projects worth over RM1.65 billion in Perlis is expected to have a huge impact on the state's development, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said of the 38 projects, 17 are at the pre-construction stage involving a cost of about RM880.25 million, while 21 others are at the construction phase with a value of about RM757.14 million.

Nanta said one of the key projects that will have a huge impact on Perlis’ progress is the development at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), including the construction of a mosque, Islamic Centre and a Centre for Engineering Studies.

Other projects that are being carried out are the SMKA Kangar full-boarding school, Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) at selected schools and the establishment of the UniKL Asia Sustainable Transportation Institute (ASTI) in Lembah Chuping.

"These projects not only strengthen the state's educational ecosystem, but also support the agenda of sustainable human capital development,” he posted on X today.

He said that in the health sector, the construction of the Beseri Type 2 Health Clinic (replacement) is ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, the road project involving the Semadong-Bukit Chabang, Padang Nyu-Padang Siding, Behor Mali-Kampung Kepala Sepuloh and Kampung Wai-Jalan Dato’ Ali routes is expected to increase connectivity, spur the local economy and facilitate the movement of people and agricultural produce.

"Our priority remains the same: ensuring the people experience actual benefits. Whether it is a more comfortable school for children, better health facilities for the community or safer and smoother road networks, every project has a direct impact on the daily lives of Perlis folks,” he said.

Nanta said the ministry remains committed to being the facilitator for the state's development agenda, as the close cooperation and constant communications between the Federal and state governments are the key to a more organised and resilient progress for the well-being of the people.

He also posted on X that the implementation of the projects was comprehensively discussed when Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah visited the Works Ministry today.

"This visit reflects the firm commitment in strengthening the synergy between the Federal and state governments to ensure the development agenda is carried out in a coordinated, inclusive and sustainable manner,” he said.
