CYBERSECURITY AGENDA TO BE STRENGTHENED THROUGH STRATEGIC COLLABORATION - ANWAR

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The national cybersecurity agenda will continue to be strengthened through strategic collaboration among all stakeholders to safeguard the country’s security, stability and sovereignty amid an increasingly uncertain geopolitical climate, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said the matter was among those discussed at the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) meeting, which he chaired today, aimed at enhancing Malaysia’s preparedness in facing increasingly complex cyber threats.

“The meeting reviewed progress on the establishment of the Cyber Security and Cryptology Development Centre (CSCDC) as a centralised entity to consolidate the functions of the Malaysian Cryptology Technology and Management Centre (PTPKM) and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), as approved by the Cabinet.

“Through this restructuring, PTPKM will be given a permanent institutional placement, while the functions and resources of CSM will be centralised under the CSCDC, which will be placed under the Prime Minister’s Department and regulated by NACSA and the National Security Council as its technical and operational arms,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar said the meeting also agreed in principle to proposed new policy directions for a Cyber Crime Bill, including provisions to address the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) such as deepfakes, the spread of intimate images, as well as computer data retention for investigative purposes.
