PARIS, Feb 13 (Bernama-dpa) – French authorities have arrested nine people and seized more than €1.4 million (US$1.6 million) in connection with a suspected ticket scam at the Louvre art museum, German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing the public prosecutor's office on Thursday evening.
Tour guides, two Louvre employees, and one person suspected of organising the scam were among the nine people arrested on Tuesday, according to prosecutors.
The suspects are to be brought before a magistrate on Friday.
Investigators said that the fraud is believed to have been going on for over 10 years. The Louvre estimates the damage caused to be over €10 million.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the suspects are believed to have invested part of the money in real estate in France and Dubai. Investigations into possible ticket fraud also took place at the Palace of Versailles.
