PENANG PH MACHINERY TOLD TO GEAR UP FOR NEXT GENERAL ELECTION

18/02/2026 09:34 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) machinery has been asked to begin early preparations for the next general election (GE).

Penang PH Leadership Council chairman Chow Kon Yeow said, with this in mind, the current focus of the coalition is on internal strengthening, including restructuring party machinery, work strategies, and organisational enhancement at all levels.

“Time will pass very quickly, so we need to start preparations for the upcoming election. We have also resolved to defend the government at both the state and federal levels; that is our mission, and it is a heavy responsibility for all of us.

“The decision to start party machinery preparations early was made during a meeting in early February and was not influenced by the current political factors of any other party,” he said in his speech at the Penang PKR Chinese New Year MADANI Open House at Wisma PKR, Bayan Baru, near here today.

Also present were PKR Wanita chief and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, State Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid, who is also Deputy Chief Minister I, and members of the state party leadership.

Chow, who is Penang's Chief Minister, said 2026 is a crucial period to bolster the party's strength and improve the government's administrative performance.

“The remaining time is getting shorter, so we must start working now so that by the time the election arrives, we can show an administrative track record that convinces the people,” he said.

In a press conference later, he also said the decision on whether the GE and state election would be held simultaneously rests with the central leadership, and Penang PH would abide by any decision made.
