KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Fifteen children of serving personnel and veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have completed the technical training phase in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) under the Malaysian Armed Forces and Veterans’ Children Skills Training Programme (LAKSAMANA 3.0).
Yayasan Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (Yayasan LTAT) said in a statement today that the certificate presentation ceremony, held at RSA Academy Sdn Bhd, marked the participants’ completion of a 14-day intensive training programme that began on Feb 8 at the Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC) Kemaman.
Throughout the training period, participants underwent comprehensive modules covering theoretical mastery, compliance with industry standards and procedures, hands-on practical training based on real-life scenarios, and technical documentation discipline.
“Emphasis was also placed on work integrity, inspection accuracy and safety compliance, in line with the requirements of high-technology industry sectors,” the statement said.
It added that NDT is among the critical competencies required in the oil and gas, aerospace, construction and energy industries, all of which demand high levels of precision and strict adherence to safety standards.
“This early exposure to an actual working environment strengthens the participants’ technical foundation before they proceed to the next phase,” it said.
In line with the Train & Place model that underpins LAKSAMANA 3.0, participants will begin a two-month industrial placement phase starting March 1. The placement will allow them to apply the skills acquired in a real working environment and be assessed according to current industry competency standards.
The integrated approach ensures the programme does not end with short-term training alone, but instead provides a more sustainable and competitive career pathway.
Out of 127 applications received, only 15 participants were selected after a rigorous screening process, reflecting the high level of competition and the defence community’s confidence in the skills development initiative.
“The careful selection process ensures that participants are fully prepared to meet the demands of both the training and the industry,” the statement added.
The implementation of LAKSAMANA 3.0 follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Yayasan LTAT and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) in May last year. Cohort 2 is scheduled to begin in April, followed by Cohort 3 in August, with a total target of 40 participants this year in line with the phased implementation plan.
