LEAVE QURAN DESECRATION CASE TO AUTHORITIES - DPM AHMAD ZAHID

27/02/2026 06:57 PM

BAGAN DATUK, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged all parties to remain calm and avoid provocation following a recent incident in which a university student allegedly uploaded an image of someone stepping on the Quran on the Threads platform.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the people should leave it to the authorities to investigate the case and not act based on emotion.

“I hope that the actions being taken by the authorities will help to calm the situation," he told reporters after officiating at the opening of Mydin Mart Bagan Datuk here today.

Two days ago, a student of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) was arrested in connection with the case.

Ahmad Zahid said the incident should never have occurred, especially among university students.

He emphasised that a punitive measure that serves as a lesson for both the offender and society must be imposed to prevent a recurrence.
