SAUDI ARABIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO HELP END SUDAN’S HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

27/02/2026 09:52 PM

GENEVA, Feb 27 (Bernama-SPA) -- Saudi Arabia on Thursday affirmed its commitment to continue exerting all efforts that would lead to ending the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and alleviating the suffering of its people, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the UN in Geneva delivered the country’s statement during an enhanced interactive dialogue on the report of the independent international fact-finding mission for Sudan, held as part of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council.

Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, stated that since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan, Saudi Arabia has acted in its responsibility toward the Sudanese people by leading diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.

These efforts led to the signing of the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan by the two parties to the conflict on May 11, 2023.

The declaration commits to protecting civilians, ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, respecting international humanitarian law and international human rights law and adopting confidence-building measures.

The Kingdom noted that despite its continued efforts and its concern for Sudan and its people, the recent attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El-Fasher constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to civilian facilities and humanitarian convoys.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned these violations and reiterated its keenness to stop the war in Sudan and curb all actions that could fuel the conflict, prolong the war, and threaten Sudan's unity, stability, and security.
