KPDN RAIDS HEALTH PRODUCT GODOWN, SEIZES GOODS WORTH RM1.33 MLN

JOHOR BAHRU, March 9 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) raided a warehouse and packaging centre for suspected counterfeit health screening products with a seizure value at RM1.33 million.

KPDN Enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said the raid by Putrajaya KPDN Enforcement Division in collaboration with Johor KPDN, was carried out after receiving a complaint from a representative of the relevant trademark owner.

“The inspection results found that the building was storing various health screening products using a brand that was suspected to be counterfeit and believed to be for distribution and sale to consumers,” he said in a statement.

Among the items found were various models of automatic blood pressure monitors, nebulizers, digital thermometers, digital scales, pulse oximeters and blood glucose meters.

He said a large number of the products were suspected of using registered trademarks without the permission of the legitimate trademark owner, and his party seized various items of the brand in question that were suspected to be counterfeit involving various models of health equipment.

For further investigation, a local woman who claimed to be the manager of the premises was also detained to assist in the investigation after a statement of inspection of the premises and a seizure declaration were issued.

The case is being investigated under the Trademark Act 2019 on suspicion of using a registered trademark without the consent of the rightful owner.
