KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) are strengthening cooperation in space technology development, particularly in satellite technology and local talent development.
In a Facebook post, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the matter was discussed during a courtesy call by a UNOOSA delegation led by its director, Aarti Holla-Maini, at his office here today.
“Among the initiatives discussed were the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (COE) for Satellite Technologies through collaboration between Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and ReOrbit, as well as talent development through the High Technology Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Hi-TVET) approach.
“These efforts aim to ensure the country’s younger generation gains early exposure to space technology, from satellite system design to Earth observation applications,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said UNOOSA had also expressed readiness to expand academic and industry cooperation, including the development of Space Law programmes and networking with universities and space technology companies at the international level.
“I appreciate UNOOSA’s commitment in supporting Malaysia’s efforts to develop its satellite technology ecosystem and local talent. Insya-Allah, this step will help the country move further in future technologies,” he said.
