KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- An Indonesian woman was found drowned after she jumped into a lake at Lake Valley, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn in Cheras yesterday. The incident is believed to have occurred when she was attempting to flee from officials from her country's embassy.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said his department received an emergency call about the incident at 4.35 pm, and a six-member team and fire engine from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched to the location.

He said the search and rescue (SAR) operation initially used the water surface searching method before the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) took over.

"The PPDA Unit conducted a dive at 10.10 pm and the victim was found at 10.19 pm at a distance of approximately six metres from the shore, at a depth of three metres," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Mukhlis said the victim, who was in her 30s, was brought up to the surface before being pronounced dead by a Ministry of Health officer at the scene.

The victim's body was handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.

He also said that the SAR team included two representatives from the Indonesian embassy. The operation ended at 11.10 pm.
