KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- A secondary school teacher pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of submitting a false claim for the supply of sports equipment amounting to RM22,728 four years ago.

Sahnan Nuddin Abdul Razak, 47, who is a senior assistant teacher in charge of Co-Curriculum, was alleged to have submitted an invoice from New Sport One Enterprise containing false details to the school’s 60-year-old principal with the intention of deceiving him.

The claim involved the supply of 80 units of hurdles, 44 units of running vests and 44 units of tracksuits, which were never actually supplied by New Sport One Enterprise.

The offence,  under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, was allegedly committed at a secondary school in Putrajaya on 26 May 2020.

He faced a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the forged items or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.

Sahnan Nuddin, who has been in the teaching service for 15 years, also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of dishonestly using as genuine an invoice from New Sport One Enterprise amounting to RM22,728 for the supply of sports equipment involving the same sports goods, which the accused had reason to believe was a forgery.

The offence was allegedly committed at the same location and date.

The charge, framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code (Act 574), is punishable under Section 465 of the same code and provides a maximum prison sentence of two years or a fine or both, if convicted.

Judge Rosli Ahmad allowed Sahnan Nuddin bail of RM7,000 with one surety, along with an order tfor him to surrender his passport to the court and report to the nearest MACC office once a month pending the disposal of the case.

The court set April 16 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fadhly Mohd Zamry appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Jason Wee Chuan Yuan represented the teacher.
