MELAKA, March 12 (Bernama) -- SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) will deploy over 1,500 cleaning personnel, along with 329 machinery units, to carry out its Hari Raya Aidilfitri Operational Strategy statewide from March 16-24.

SWM Environment corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the operation would be carried out in three stages: phase one (before Hari Raya Aidilfitri) from March 16-20; phase two (during Hari Raya) from March 21-22; and phase three (after Hari Raya) from March 23-24.

"The operation is drawn up to ensure public cleanliness is maintained, and that waste collection services run smoothly during the festive season, with focus on scheduled domestic and bulk waste collection operations, scheduled operations at public markets, waste collection at centralised bins or hotspots, as well as cleaning works in city centres, beaches and public places.

"To ensure smooth operations, the domestic waste collection schedule will be brought forward to midnight on the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, while collection at centralised bins and major roads will be carried out on the first day of Hari Raya,” he said at a media conference for 2026 SWM Environment Hari Raya Operational Strategy and Iftar event with strategic partner agencies, the media and orphans here today.

Also present were SWM Environment Melaka and North Johor operations manager Khaw Su Aun and Melaka Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) director Nor Zaki Md Nor.

Mohd Norlisam said SWM Environment will also pay special attention to 77 centralised bin hotspots to prevent the risk of waste accumulation throughout the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.

He added that of the total, 37 hotspots are located in the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB), 16 in the Alor Gajah Municipal Council, 19 in the Jasin Municipal Council and five in the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council areas.

To ensure smooth operations, he advised residents not to park haphazardly in front of their houses, to tie garbage bags securely, to practise waste separation at source, and to ensure remnants of firecrackers or fireworks are fully extinguished before disposing of them in garbage bins.

He said that throughout the operational period, the SWM Complaints Division will handle resident and public grievances and direct them to the relevant parties for prompt action.

He added that any enquiries or complaints can be channelled to the Indahkan Malaysia Hotline (1-800-88-7472), the SWM Public Complaints Unit  (012-6180082) or Melaka SWM Environment (06-3359000).
