KUCHING, March 13 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that national progress benefits all segments of society, and not merely a privileged few, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
The PKR president said since its establishment, the party has served as a platform for change, upholding justice and uplifting the dignity of the people.
“Earlier, I attended the PKR Mini Convention and officiated the party’s divisional meetings for Sarawak.
“I consider such gatherings with the party’s extended family important because PKR is not merely a political organisation but a movement born out of the determination to bring change, uphold justice and elevate the dignity of the people as a whole,” he said in a post on Facebook today.
He said PKR has also consistently carried the voice of communities of various races and regions, including championing native customary rights (NCR) land issues in Sarawak as well as the welfare of the people in Sabah, Kelantan, Perlis and Johor.
Anwar said the country can only remain peaceful and strong when shared interests form the basis of the struggle, transcending narrow sentiments of race, locality or group.
At the convention, Anwar also urged party leaders, members and activists to further strengthen unity and remain committed to the reform agenda.
“I stressed that the real test in implementing changes or reform is when you are in power, not after or when you are ousted.
“I admit that not all reforms can be done in the time frame we aspire, but the important thing is that we must remain consistent and recognise that we are not ‘perfect’ while doing our best.
”My strength today is anchored in the strength of the party; in our divisions, branches, youth and women’s wings, which continue to energise our spirit to realise a Malaysia that is just, prosperous and dignified,” he said.
