PM ANWAR CALLS FOR CLOSE MONITORING OF DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN KOTA KINABALU

15/03/2026 05:39 PM

KOTA KINABALU, March 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the need for all parties to remain focused and closely monitor the implementation of every approved development project for the Kota Kinabalu district.

Anwar said the move is important as the people have high expectations for projects that have a direct impact on their daily lives, including efforts to upgrade roads and infrastructure facilities.

“In my view, there should be no excuses for projects to be delayed due to inefficiency or bureaucratic red tape because every delay will ultimately affect the people’s quality of life, while also restraining the state’s potential for progress and development,” he said in a Facebook post.

He said the government remains focused on ensuring that every planned project is implemented efficiently, transparently and according to schedule so that the benefits can be felt by the people as soon as possible.

Earlier, the Prime Minister chaired the Kota Kinabalu Special Development Committee meeting at Menara Kinabalu here to discuss the strategic development agenda for Sabah’s capital city.

The meeting, which took place from 1 pm to 2 pm, was also attended by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor together with several state Cabinet members and leaders of relevant agencies.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also Sabah Finance Minister, and Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Rubin Balang, Sabah Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib, Sabah Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Mojungki, as well as Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah also attended the meeting.

The special committee meeting was held to discuss the latest developments of programmes and projects currently being implemented, as well as to examine issues related to the wellbeing of the local community and strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government and the State Government.
