KOTA KINABALU, March 15 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has praised the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying it has successfully elevated Malaysia’s standing on the international stage while driving the country’s economic growth.

He said since taking over the nation’s leadership, the Prime Minister has strengthened ties with world leaders, thereby boosting investor confidence in Malaysia.

“Since leading the country, the Prime Minister has successfully elevated Malaysia’s name again on the international stage through strong relations that continue to be reinforced with world leaders.

“I would like to reiterate that the Sabah Government under my leadership, formed following the conclusion of the 17th state election, will continue to provide strong support and backing for the leadership of the Prime Minister,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the MADANI breaking-of-fast event with the Prime Minister at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) here today.

Hajiji said among the achievements was Malaysia’s success in hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit last year, which he said was carried out excellently under Anwar’s leadership.

Meanwhile, he said the MADANI government’s leadership had also succeeded in driving the country’s economic growth with encouraging investment achievements.

He said last year Malaysia recorded the highest investment in its history at RM426.7 billion, an increase of 11 per cent compared with 2022.

“The investments also involved more than 8,000 projects with the potential to create 244,902 job opportunities. At the same time, the ringgit is strengthening, signalling that the leadership of the MADANI government is on the right track to bring Malaysia towards progress and excellence,” he said.

Hajiji said the state government also welcomed the Federal Government’s strategic approach in channelling assistance to the people, including the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) which was brought forward ahead of Aidilfitri.

“This also includes the RM400 FlySiswa special assistance for public university students travelling home for the festive break, involving domestic flights between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

He added that the state government also provides additional assistance to Sabah students studying at higher education institutions to help them return to their hometowns for Aidilfitri.
