OP SELAMAT 26: POLICE TO FOCUS ON 59 HIGH-RISK LOCATIONS NATIONWIDE

17/03/2026 10:48 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) is monitoring 59 locations identified as prone to accidents and traffic congestion nationwide under Op Selamat 26 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Bukit Aman JSPT director Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the operation will run for six days from March 19 to 24, with emphasis on reducing accidents, particularly fatal crashes, ensuring smooth traffic flow and preventing crime.

“An estimated 2.3 million vehicles are expected to use major highways during the period.

“The operation adopts an early preventive service approach and comprehensive enforcement, involving early preparations and coordination among all police contingents nationwide, as well as cooperation with other enforcement agencies,” he said at a press conference after launching the operation here today.

Muhammed Hasbullah said 5,544 JSPT personnel will be deployed throughout the operation to strengthen enforcement and assist road users.

“To enhance emergency response efficiency, 25 Emergency Response Teams will be stationed at 11 strategic locations along major highways, including the North-South Expressway and East Coast routes.

“These teams will be on standby to provide immediate assistance to road users facing vehicle breakdowns or emergencies,” he said.

He added that strict action will be taken under the Road Transport Act 1987 against six major offences: driving over the speed limit, using mobile phones while driving, misuse of emergency lanes, running red lights, overtaking on double lines and queue cutting.

In a related development, he said the Ministry of Transport, through the Road Transport Department (JPJ), will also enforce a ban on heavy vehicles on March 19 and 20, as well as March 28 and 29, to reduce congestion and improve road safety.

He said JSPT is working with strategic partners, including the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), to disseminate traffic information to the public.

In addition to advising road users to plan their journeys early, obtain the latest traffic updates and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before travelling, road users are also reminded to obey traffic rules, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and remain patient and disciplined on the road.

“Members of the public are also reminded to take preventive measures to prevent crime before leaving their homes during the festive season,” he said.
