TEHRAN, Mar. 23 (Bernama-MNA) – Iran’s Red Crescent reported extensive damage to homes, businesses and humanitarian facilities across several provinces, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

Pirhossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, announced that airstrikes have damaged more than 81,000 civilian buildings and said medical centres, schools, ambulances and relief workers were among the targets.

Kolivand described the attacks as deeply concerning and called on international bodies to take immediate and effective action to stop attacks on civilians, relief workers, medical centres, and vital infrastructure, while also pursuing legal action through responsible international institutions.

He said field assessments show that a total of 81,365 civilian units have been damaged, including 61,555 residential units and 19,020 commercial units across different provinces.

Kolivand added that in Tehran alone, 24,605 residential and commercial units were damaged. He said 275 pharmaceutical, medical, health and emergency centres, 498 schools, 17 Red Crescent centres, three helicopters and 48 operational vehicles — including ambulances, rescue and support vehicles — were also damaged.

He further said 10 relief workers were injured in cities including Tehran, Mahabad and Khomein, while one Red Crescent aid worker from Isfahan was martyred during rescue operations.

According to Kolivand, 206 people linked to the education sector were killed and 154 teachers and students were injured, while in the medical sector 21 people were killed and 103 injured.

He stressed that under international humanitarian law, civilians, medical staff, relief workers, hospitals, schools and medical transport are entitled to special protection and must not be targeted.
