PENDANG, BALING LATEST DISTRICTS HIT BY HEATWAVE - METMALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- Pendang and Baling districts, in Kedah, have become the latest areas to be hit by a heatwave or Level 2 hot weather, with the daily maximum temperature reaching between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius as of 4 pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the hot weather status in Padang Terap, Kedah, also remains at Level 2.

A total of 15 other areas in Peninsular Malaysia are at Level 1 (alert), involving the whole of Perlis and Kuala Lumpur, as well as Sik, Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi Island, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah.

“A similar weather warning has also been issued for the Timur Laut and Utara districts in Penang, as well as Hulu Perak, Selama, Kinta and Kuala Kangsar in Perak,” it said.

A heatwave warning is issued when the daily maximum temperature ranges between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days, while the alert level refers to daily maximum temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
