MEF SUPPORTS GOVT’S FUEL RATIONALISATION, URGES CONSERVATION IN USAGE

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) --  The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) emphasises that all segments of society must play a proactive and responsible role in conserving fuel and ensuring sustainable energy usage amid ongoing uncertainties in West Asia.

Its president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the evolving geopolitical developments have heightened volatility in global energy markets, but Malaysia cannot remain insulated from these external pressures.

“MEF fully supports the government’s fuel rationalisation efforts and calls on all stakeholders to act decisively and responsibly in managing fuel consumption,” he said in a statement today.

He also noted that fuel rationalisation must be approached as a shared national responsibility, and not a challenge for the government alone.

“It requires a whole-of-nation approach, where policymakers provide clear direction and support, businesses drive efficiency and innovation, and the rakyat embrace more responsible consumption habits,” he said.

Syed Hussain said MEF remains committed to working closely with the government to ensure that fuel rationalisation measures are implemented in a manner that balances economic sustainability, business continuity, and national resilience.

Looking ahead, MEF also encourages businesses to accelerate their transition towards sustainable practices and alternative energy solutions, he said.

“Employers should begin investing in renewable energy, including solar solutions, and explore the gradual adoption of electric vehicles where feasible.

“Establishing internal task forces to identify fuel-saving strategies across operations will also be critical,” he added.

In a special address yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that, effective April 1, the individual monthly limit for the purchase of BUDI95 will be temporarily adjusted to 200 litres per month from 300 litres per month previously, due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

A majority of the rakyat are not affected by the quota reduction, as consumers, on average, use about 100 litres per month, and nearly 90 per cent consume less than 200 litres per month.
