MACPMA, PERODUA SUPPORT MITI'S STANCE ON ALIGNING AUTOMOTIVE INVESTMENTS WITH NATIONAL OBJECTIVES

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Automotive Component Parts Manufacturers (MACPMA) supports the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry's (MITI) position that automotive investment incentives and manufacturing licences should be aligned with national development objectives.

It said the incentives include technology transfer, capability upgrading, and the continued growth of local Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3 component manufacturers.

"Such an approach is critical to sustaining and strengthening the established vendor ecosystem that has been built through decades of investment and industrial development," it said in a statement today.

MACPMA also expressed its full support for MITI's clarification on Malaysia’s automotive investment policies, which are applied uniformly and consistently to all investors.

"We acknowledge MITI’s commitment to maintaining an open and welcoming investment environment while ensuring that new automotive investments contribute meaningfully to the long-term sustainability of the national automotive ecosystem.

"The emphasis on export orientation, localisation, and integration with the domestic supply chain is essential to strengthening Malaysia’s industrial base and trade competitiveness," it said.

Furthermore, the association concurs with the ministry that these policies are developmental in nature rather than protectionist, ensuring that foreign investments complement and strengthen local industry players while creating sustainable value across the automotive value chain.

"As the representative body for Malaysia’s automotive component manufacturers, we remain committed to working closely with MITI and other stakeholders to support policies that promote inclusive growth, resilience, and the long-term competitiveness of the Malaysian automotive ecosystem," it added.

Meanwhile, Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) also expressed support for MITI’s stance to encourage investment under the National Automotive Policy (NAP).

The carmaker said by having guidance in accordance with the NAP, the automotive industry's ecosystem will be further strengthened and create significant economic spillover, ultimately fostering shared prosperity for all stakeholders.

“Through the NAP’s Next Generation Vehicle (NxGV) vision, Malaysians will see greater value and innovation in mobility that would benefit a majority of Malaysians,” it added.
