KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- The retail price of RON97 petrol will drop by 20 sen to RM4.95 per litre, for the period from April 2 to 8.
In a statement today, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said the retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will rise by 50 sen to RM6.02 per litre, while prices in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remain unchanged at RM2.15 per litre.
Meanwhile, the retail price of unsubsidised RON95 petrol remains at RM3.87 per litre, while the subsidised RON95 price under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative is maintained at RM1.99 per litre.
The MOF said that effective today, the BUDI95 eligibility limit has been temporarily adjusted to 200 litres per month, alongside the implementation of diesel filling limits, to curb leakages and smuggling.
The government is also maintaining the additional BUDI Diesel cash assistance of RM100 for April, bringing the total aid to RM300 for recipients under the BUDI Individu and BUDI Agri-Komoditi categories.
According to MOF, the measures aim to ensure fuel prices remain affordable, safeguard public well-being and selected sectors, through targeted and transparent subsidies.
“The government is also considering medium- and long-term measures to ensure that the subsidy mechanism remains sustainable, transparent and beneficial to the people, taking into account developments in the global energy crisis and its implications on the energy market,” the ministry said.
