ETHNIC, SUB-ETHNIC FACTORS AMONG BN’S CRITERIA FOR SABAH POLLS CANDIDATES - AHMAD ZAHID

SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Ethnic and sub-ethnic factors are among the criteria considered by Barisan Nasional (BN) in selecting candidates to represent the coalition in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17), its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. 

The Deputy Prime Minister said the party is currently reviewing the winnability of the proposed names as well as the issues to be highlighted in its election manifesto.

“The criteria we use for candidate selection are also based on the WALI (winnable, acceptable, likeable) concept. In addition to the list that has been submitted, we will also take into account (candidate selection) based on ground assessments.

‎”Insya-Allah, many new and young faces will be featured, along with several experienced incumbents who have performed well in past elections and demonstrated their service to their constituencies,” he said.

He told reporters this after officiating the closing ceremony of the national-level ‘Konvensyen 152’ (Article 152 of the Federal Constitution) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) here today.

‎On the number of seats BN will contest, Ahmad Zahid said it will be announced on nomination day.

Recently, Ahmad Zahid was reported as saying that BN had submitted its list of potential candidates to the relevant authorities to ensure that only individuals with high integrity are selected to represent the coalition.

He said the names of candidates for each state constituency had been submitted to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and the Syariah Court for vetting.
