LIBARAN, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Sabah UMNO Information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said that Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin's health issues have not affected the party candidates’ campaign trail ahead of the Nov 29 polling day.
Suhaimi, the Libaran Member of Parliament, said Bung Moktar, the Lamag state constituency candidate for the 17th Sabah State Election, was only suffering from a common infection and the flu.
"This has not affected the ongoing campaigning. However, the whole state BN machinery and I are praying that he will recover in the next day or two, and continue to work towards the victory of BN candidates,” he said, when asked about the health condition of Bung Moktar, who was reported to have fallen ill on nomination day on Nov 15.
Suhaimi said this after the BN candidate for the Sungai Manila seat, Zaini Tiksun, held a meet-and-greet session with residents from Rancangan Sungai Manila here last night.
Commenting on BN's campaign, which is in its second week, he said the blue wave is seen gaining ground in all the constituencies that it is contesting.
"I can see on social media that the blue wave is gaining traction, similarly with the print and electronic media… we can see the blue wave becoming more dominant.
"This is because all those contesting on the BN ticket do not have any internal feud. We see that many other parties are still at loggerheads and have yet to resolve their internal problems,” he said.
However, Suhaimi, the BN candidate for the Sungai Sibuga state seat, reminded the party machinery to continue to intensify their campaign movement to ensure BN victory, and subsequently for the state government after Nov 29.
"We are entering the final week of campaigning, so efforts must be intensified. For months, we have worked hard to manage the party well. So, there is no room for complacency in this last lap. We have no time to rest,” he said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the presence of national rock legend Datuk Amy Search, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, in the programme, Suhaimi said the popular singer will join the series of campaign tours of BN candidates across Sabah.
"Actually, Amy himself offered his services as he wants to see BN back as the government, because to him, none can compare to the administration of BN.
"When we bring Amy along, we can see such encouraging response from the young voters,” he said.
Polling is on Nov 29, while early voting takes place on Nov 25.
