JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- Bukit Kepong State Assemblyman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal has announced his resignation as Johor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.
Dr Sahruddin who is also the Johor Bersatu chairman, made the announcement via a post on his Facebook page.
"I hereby resign as Johor Perikatan Nasional chairman. I have lost the Menteri Besar position, I am more than happy to resign as PN chairman," he said.
Earlier, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his resignation as central PN chairman effective Jan 1, 2026.
Dr Sahruddin was appointed as the 17th Johor Menteri Besar in April 2019 before being replaced by Datuk Hasni Mohammad on Feb 28, 2020.
Meanwhile, Dr Sahruddin when contacted by Bernama said his resignation was made following a similar move taken by Muhyiddin at the central level.
He said that normally the position of PN chairman at the state level would be determined by the central PN chairman, and he felt it was appropriate for him to also resign.
“This position is a trust and we must obey the leader.
“What is certain is that the Johor PN does not have any problems or unrest. In fact, we just met early last month,” he said.
Currently, Barisan Nasional (BN) forms the Johor State Government with a large majority of 40 seats, followed by Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 13 seats and PN with three seats.
Of the three PN seats, two were won by Bersatu and one by PAS.
