KINABATANGAN, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Despite his busy campaign schedule, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Lamag state by-election Mohd Ismail Ayob took time to engage with media practitioners covering the election.
Mohd Ismail, better known as Miha, greeted members of the media and expressed his appreciation during a visit to the media centre at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in Kota Kinabatangan here, thanking them for the coverage provided throughout the campaign, which entered its eighth day today.
He said the media plays an important role in conveying accurate and authentic information to the public.
“I would like to thank all our media friends who have gone to great lengths to gather information, even to the far corners of Lamag and Kinabatangan.
“Media practitioners covering this election campaign have helped us (BN) tremendously. We are grateful because, for us, there have been many speculations spread by the opposition on social media, and media reports have at least helped address questions and counter negative perceptions against us,” he said here today.
Mohd Ismail also proposed that the number of NADI be increased in the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency to further facilitate the delivery of information and government services to the people.
The Lamag state by-election, which will see a straight fight between Mohd Ismail and Warisan candidate Mazliwati Abdul Malek, is being held following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.
Meanwhile, a by-election is also being held simultaneously for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat, featuring a three-cornered contest between Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar (BN), Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
The Lamag state constituency has 13,899 registered voters, while the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency comprises 48,722 voters.
The Election Commission has set polling day for both by-elections Jan 24, with early voting scheduled for Jan 20.
