KINABATANGAN BY-ELECTION: NAIM MOKTAR SHARES STAMINA TIPS AMID CAMPAIGN

19/01/2026 11:20 AM

KINABATANGAN, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Avoiding iced drinks is among the practices adopted by Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, to ensure he can withstand the pace of the hectic campaign schedule.

Better known as Naim Moktar, he said the simple practice was advice passed down from his late father, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, to maintain optimal health, in addition to taking dietary supplements.

“The vast geography of the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency means my campaign movements begin as early as dawn, and I am only able to rest late at night. I sleep only about two to three hours a day.

“I am very careful with my diet, including taking only basic supplements, to stay healthy throughout this campaign period,” he told Bernama.

The Kinabatangan UMNO Youth chief said that as the campaign enters its final week, his daily schedule is now packed with various programmes, and he will strive to meet as many voters as possible across the Kinabatangan constituency.

Mohd Kurniawan Naim said he can attend up to 10 programmes a day if they are held at nearby locations, but this drops to three or four programmes a day in interior areas due to distance and lengthy travel time.

Yesterday, Bernama also accompanied the central UMNO Youth treasurer during his campaign, where he braved unpaved, gravel-covered roads spanning 60 kilometres in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, taking more than an hour from the main road, solely to meet residents in the interior of Kinabatangan at Kampung Balat and Kampung Sangau.

Both villages are located about 90 kilometres from Kinabatangan town and can be accessed by land via oil palm estates or by boat across Sungai Kinabatangan.

The Kinabatangan by-election features a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and Goldam Hamid (Independent).

Meanwhile, the Lamag state by-election sees a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob (BN) and Mazliwati Abdul Malek (Warisan).

Both by-elections are being held following the death of the incumbent, Bung Moktar, 66, on Dec 5 last year.

Early voting is tomorrow, with polling set for Saturday.
