COMMED 2024 OFFERS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO EXPLORE EMERGING TREND

SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The Communication and Media Festival (COMMED) 2024 offers a unique opportunity for students and academicians to explore emerging trends and discuss the future of the communication and media field with industry professionals.

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) deputy vice-chancellor (Industry, Community and Alumni Network) Prof Dr Jamalunlaili Abdullah said the festival provides a platform for students, academics, and professionals to engage with these critical issues, fostering a more informed and responsible community.

“It also serves as a celebration of our shared goals and offers a dynamic space for learning, networking, and gaining inspiration from an outstanding line-up of speakers and workshops.

“This embodies UiTM’s commitment to staying ahead of industry shifts and preparing students for impactful careers,” he said when officiating the closing of COMMED 2024 at the UiTM Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FKPM) here today.

Also present were FKPM dean Dr Abd Rasid Abd Rahman, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive oficer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and deputy editor-in-chief (News Services) Nasriah Darus.

Bernama Head of Broadcasting (TV and Radio) Mohd Shukri Ishak, as well as Head of Bernama TV Nor Hamzeela Md Hambali and Bernama Radio chief operating officer Azlan Idris, were also in attendance.

Jamalunlaili emphasised that FKPM also played a crucial role in connecting UiTM with the broader community through strategic public relations efforts and impactful campaigns, helping to establish the university as one of Malaysia’s most respected institutions of higher learning.

“Undoubtedly, the Mass Communication programme will continue to be a vital component of UiTM’s growth in the future and will be at the forefront of various technological advancements, guiding us into the new era of communication,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abd Rasid said the two-day programme aimed to create a dedicated space for dialogue and collaboration, which will inspire and empower the communication and media industry.

“To address the challenges of the ever-changing modern world, it is crucial for us to foster a communication and media culture that is transformative, inclusive, and responsible,” he said in his opening speech.

Abd Rasid also unveiled the establishment of the FKPM Newsroom, in strategic partnership with Bernama.

“This collaboration provides journalism and communication students with an authentic newsroom experience, using state-of-the-art desktops and software, allowing them to learn under real-time, industry-standard conditions.

“Students will gain invaluable skills in news reporting, editing and broadcasting, preparing them for careers in the competitive media field. Thank you, Bernama,” he said.

A wide range of exciting activities were held during the COMMED Festival including a Mobile Legends competition, exhibition booths, and a talent search for TV news presenters and radio DJs for Bernama.

In addition, a news writing workshop conducted by industry experts provided participants with the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the field of journalism in the programme.
