PUTRAJAYA, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The Cabinet has congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for being awarded Peru’s highest honour, the “El Sol del Peru”.
At a press conference here, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also Unity Government’s spokesperson, said the Cabinet expressed its congratulations during a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today.
“The Cabinet congratulates the prime minister on receiving the Order “El Sol del Peru”, one of the highest and oldest honours in Peru.
“This is a recognition and a point of pride not just for the prime minister but also for our country,” he said.
Anwar was conferred the Order “El Sol de Peru” in recognition of his role as head of government during his first official visit to the Latin American nation since assuming office in 2022.
The conferment of decoration was done by Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra at a ceremony held at the Government Palace in Lima on Nov 13.
The Order “El Sol de Peru” or “The Sun of Peru”, grade of Gran Cross, is awarded to sovereigns, heads of state, heads of government, ministers of foreign affairs, ministers of state, accredited foreign ambassadors or presidents of public authorities.
