PUTRAJAYA, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM) has taken steps to enhance its Waja Squad initiative by introducing the Gen Z Waja Squad to better support and engage young people.
Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, in a statement today, said the squad was established through the strategic partnership of the Women’s Development Department (JPW) and the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
She said that through the collaboration, 300 members of the Gen Z Waja Squad were trained to use the Reproductive and Social Health Education Module (PEKERTI).
Meanwhile, Noraini said 300 members of the Gen Z Waja Squad, comprising teenagers and youths aged 18 to 30, received their credentials in conjunction with the 2024 National Waja Squad Convention held today.
She said that the Gen Z Waja Squad could play a key role in raising awareness about reproductive and social health education, particularly among teenagers in the local community.
“This Gen Z Waja Squad can also expand its role in the community by providing psychosocial support and guidance to youth in need,” she said.
Noraini said that the 2024 National Waja Squad Convention, held for the first time and themed "Tekad Berbakti, Waja Bestari," served as a platform to recognise Waja Squad members who have contributed to the well-being, harmony, and development of the country.
Regarding the Waja Squad, which was established in 2021, she said that as of last month, the squad had 337,958 members, consisting of 262,048 women and 75,910 men.
Noraini said that at the convention, selected Waja Squad members were honoured with the Bestari Waja Squad Award, based on their performance in the Sumbang Bakti Skuad Waja Programme carried out throughout the year.
She said that a total of 26 Sumbang Bakti Skuad Waja Programmes had been implemented, benefiting 2,227 target groups in communities across the country throughout 2024.
