KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- A total of RM900,000 has been allocated for the upgrading of 10 public facilities in Kampung Baru under the Kampung Angkat MADANI (adopted village) initiative.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar announced that the upgrades will include several schools, surau, mosques, and halls, with completion expected by March next year, depending on the expertise and efficiency of the appointed contractor.

“If a skilled contractor is chosen to oversee the development of these public facilities, insya-Allah, the improvements will be completed within a short timeframe and with quality results,” he said.

He added that both he and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) hope that the upgraded educational institutions and mosque will serve as vital community hubs, uniting the people of Kampung Baru.

He said this at the Santuni MADANI for the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), organised by MAIWP, at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, today.

At the event, mock cheques were presented to representatives from five institutions, with RM20,000 allocated to the Kampung Paya Community Hall; RM100,000 each for Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, Madrasah Rajaiyah Jalan Raja Uda, and Surau Al-Hidayah Kampung Padang; and RM30,000 for Surau Jalan Raja Bot.

Additionally, for educational institutions, a cheque of RM100,000 was handed over to representatives from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pendidikan Khas Kampung Baharu, and RM200,000 was presented to SK Kampung Bharu. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Puteri Wilayah, Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih, and SK Jalan Raja Muda each received RM100,000.

MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer emphasised that the assistance would enhance the comfort and well-being of Kampung Baru residents who use these facilities.

“This funding comes from zakat (tithe) collected from residents of the Federal Territories. It is part of the initiatives aimed at supporting the residents of Kampung Baru, including religious institutions and mosques, to improve their facilities,” he said.

Since the launch of Kampung Sungai Baru in Kampung Baru as Mohd Na’im’s adopted village on July 29, MAIWP has organised various activities, including cycling convoy visits, food basket distributions, disaster relief efforts, free haircuts, and health checks.

On July 6, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim instructed the Cabinet and the Chief Secretary to the Government to select native villages or other villages to be adopted under the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative, to ensure development is not concentrated in urban areas only.
