JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement signed today will bring significant benefits, especially to Johor and its people, said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said that the agreement is the result of in-depth discussions and careful preparations between Malaysia and Singapore, which will open more business opportunities and strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.

“This is a strategic step that will positively impact the development of Johor by creating more high-paying job opportunities, increasing investments, and strengthening key sectors in Johor.

“Hopefully, all these plans and efforts will be successfully implemented and subsequently bring great benefits to the people of Johor as well as Malaysia as a whole. God willing, we will witness positive transformation for Johor,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Onn Hafiz said he was honoured to witness the signing of the JS-SEZ agreement between the Malaysian and Singaporean governments, which was also witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

“Thank you for the opportunity to attend the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, which took place over two days starting yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.

“Thanks to all parties who have worked tirelessly to make this agreement a success, especially the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attorney General’s Chambers, Ministry of Higher Education, Iskandar Regional Development Authority, Kedah State Economic Planning Unit, Invest Johor, and all those involved. Not forgetting to thank the government of Singapore as well,” he added.

The Iskandar development region also includes Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas-Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai-Skudai, and Sedenak.
