KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) today launched "Op Prihatin 2025” with the main aim of enhancing the spirit of helping Malaysians through humanitarian services via the force, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year.
APM deputy commissioner (management) Datuk Ismail Mohd Zawawi said Op Prihatin is a continuation of Op Bantu, which was implemented from 2010 to 2021, adding that Op Prihatin was introduced in 2022 to expand the scope of APM's tasks.
He said Op Prihatin involves a total of 1,416 officers and members, covering 14 state Civil Defence offices and 118 district Civil Defence offices as well as Civil Defence Unit offices nationwide.
“Op Prihatin this year is divided into two phases, with the first phase from Jan 25 to Feb 2 and the second phase from March 29 to April 6 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said after the launch of Op Prihatin at the Petronas station in Taman Putra Budiman, Balakong near here today.
Ismail said among the services provided during Op Prihatin are humanitarian services such as dealing with fallen trees, road accidents, minor repairs and advisory services on treatment or disseminating civil defence knowledge to the community.
“In addition, the APM will also conduct patrols on certain days at popular locations and hotspots such as resorts, shopping malls and places of worship,” he said.
Ismail also advised the public to be more vigilant during the monsoon transition period, which began in November 2024 and continues until March 2025.
“The public is urged to heed weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department,” he said.
