JAKARTA, Jan 28 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- A 5.8-magnitude earthquake jolted off Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province on Tuesday night without generating large waves, the country's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency said, according to Xinhua.

The earthquake occurred at 9.53 pm Jakarta time (1453 GMT), with its epicentre 42 kilometres southeast of Parigi Moutong regency at a depth of 91 km.

Initially, the agency reported the earthquake's magnitude as 6.1 but later revised it down to 5.8. They also noted that no tsunami warning would be issued, as the tremors were not expected to trigger any large waves.    Indonesia, an archipelagic nation, sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the "Pacific Ring of Fire", making the country prone to earthquakes.
