YAYASAN AXIATA CONTRIBUTES RM1 MLN TO SUPPORT POOR STUDENTS TO PURSUE EDUCATION

GERIK, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Axiata (Axiata Foundation) contributed RM1 million through the Back To School Yayasan Axiata programme to 2,000 eligible students throughout the country.

 Axiata Foundation chief executive officer Mohamad Kamal Nawawi said the donation initiative has been channelled since it was introduced in 2022 since the Axiata Foundation bears a great responsibility in supporting the education agenda in the country, especially involving underprivileged families.

"This programme aims to allocate schooling assistance through the hope that students can continue their school sessions in a more comfortable condition.

"Yayasan Axiata's main mission in education is to provide quality educational opportunities to all families in an equitable and inclusive manner for all students in the country," he said in his speech at the Yayasan Axiata Back to School Programme 2025 at the Gerik District Council (MDG) Multipurpose Hall here today. 

The ceremony was officiated by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and also attended by Perak Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed. 

Earlier, a total of 450 Orang Asli students from the Gerik parliamentary constituency received school assistance from Yayasan Axiata in collaboration with Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (YPM). 

The ceremony also witnessed the symbolic handover of Yayasan Axiata's Cura Cheque amounting to RM250,000 which was handed over by Mohamad Kamal to YPM Chief Executive Officer, Faisalludin Mohamat Yusuff.
