ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGY IN MELAKA PRIVATE HOSPITALS BOOSTS STATE HEALTH TOURISM

MELAKA, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The use of advanced robotic technology in private hospitals in Melaka is helping to boost the state's health tourism sector, a key part of its tourism industry.

Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the introduction of the Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgery System at Pantai Hospital in Ayer Keroh has improved the hospital's services while also enhancing the state's appeal as a medical tourism destination.

“The Da Vinci Xi System, which uses artificial intelligence (AI), offers health tourists more treatment options and higher standards of care,” he said, noting that Melaka has seen a growing number of medical tourists especially from Indonesia and Singapore.

"With this new technology, we are confident more international visitors will choose Melaka for cutting-edge medical treatments,” Ab Rauf told reporters after the launch of the Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgery System.

The event was attended by State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem and Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh chief executive officer Tan Yew Aik.

The Da Vinci Xi System is used for various surgeries including urology, gynaecology, colorectal surgery and general surgery, and is already in use in leading medical institutions in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Ab Rauf also said the key benefits of the technology include greater surgical precision, reduced blood loss, less pain and faster recovery times. Introduced in 2014 and continually improved, the system has been proven safe and effective for robotic surgery.

“This technology combines the expertise of surgeons with the precision of robotics, leading to better surgical outcomes,” he added.
