JPNIN ENHANCES GERAK RAHMAH PROGRAMME IN MELAKA

MELAKA, March 16 (Bernama) -- The Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) will continue to strengthen the Gerak Rahmah programme as a platform for fostering racial unity.

Perak JPNIN director Intan Suhana Yusoff said the initiative, to further strengthen relationships and harmony between communities, involved 297 Rukun Tetangga (KRT) areas.

"Various programmes are organised under the initiative including the Jom Masak Bubur Lambuk Ramadan programme carried out today involving 10 KRTs from Melaka Tengah and Jasin.

"This annual event not only strengthens relationships but also translates the spirit of goodwill through goyong-royong cooking activities which involve the participation of various races,” he told reporters at the programme in Kampung Duyong here today.

The programme, opened by the State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, was also attended by Duyong Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abd Halem.

Meanwhile, Intan Suhana said the Melaka JPNIN will also hold a Unity Week on April 4 by highlighting the “Kembara Perpaduan”, in addition to various activities including “Semarak Perpaduan”, “Semarak Kenegaraan” and the Rahmah Community.

The Jom Masak Bubur Lambuk Ramadan program, with a traditional theme, involved the participation of residents, students of higher learning institutions, and staff of government departments and agencies who cooked 15 pots of various types of porridge.

Also held at the event was the handing over of “Bakul Rahmah” to every KRT to implement the programme in their respective area and the distribution of 4,000 containers of bubur lambuk to the public.
