ABB EYES MORE PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL COMPANIES FOR MALAYSIA'S ENERGY TRANSITION

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- Global technology company ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd is keen to look for more collaborations with local companies and agencies to support Malaysia's goals in energy transition.

ABB vice president of energy industries for Southeast Asia, Abhinav Harikumar, noted that the company has partnered with organisations such as the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) on energy efficiency. It also collaborated with local universities such as Universiti Malaya and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) on carbon capture and storage (CCS) upskilling.

"With the technology that's out there, ABB truly believes technology like CCS, hydrogen, and others requires broad-level collaboration to get these projects off the ground and get the investment and put it into place. Having said that, with the energy transition (mission), we are extremely committed and always looking for partnerships with other technology providers," he told a press conference here yesterday.

Abhinav also applauded Malaysia's commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions through the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

He said as these new technologies started coming online, the company saw a huge opportunity to lower emissions and improve the operations of current facilities by integrating greener energy into existing operations.

"So looking for these opportunities, improving the reliability of existing operations, I think that is a huge low-hanging fruit that we see here today. When we look a little bit more medium-term and long-term and we look at the landscape, we have to be open for newer technology," he added.

ABB is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, ABB with a history that stretches back more than 140 years.
